Fresh Italian oregano in Louisville
Fresh oregano is a key component of Italian and other Mediterranean cuisine. We offer both Greek and Italian oregano varieties, though Greek is the one most often called for in recipes. Italian oregano has smaller leaves and more delicate flavor, with notes of citrus and grass. It’s lovely when you need to garnish a dish or salad. Greek oregano has a stronger flavor and more pungent aroma. Look for notes of grass and menthol in Greek oregano and use it in sauces, stews, or other cooked dishes. It’s also excellent in vinaigrette.
In general, Italian oregano is great for dishes where the herb won’t be part of the cooking process. Greek oregano has a sturdy flavor that will mellow and develop during cooking without being lost in the process.
Greek oregano is a featured component of Herbs de Provence.
