Hi. Thanks for coming.  This site is dedicated to making life a little more old-fashioned and slowed down, to elevating the every day and kicking things up a notch, and to making space for things that bring you joy. If you want to throw fabulous dinner parties, cook lovely food, make your home and garden beautiful and use the  “good” china for any (or no) reason at all, you’re in the right place. You don’t need to love all of those things to find a place here and you don’t need to do them all the time.

Splendor is about what you do with what you’ve got, how you put a little (or a lot) of gilding on the ordinary, and prioritizing what brings joy to your life.

About me:

I’m Heather and I like old things (houses, art, furniture) and shiny things (silver, gilding, crystal). It makes me happy to grow my own food, cook from scratch and spend time making my home comfortable and beautiful. You could describe me as somewhere between Downton Abby and Little House on the Prairie (Laura Ingalls Crawley?)  I have three cats who are all a little bit extra, five rowdy hens and a wonderful husband. We live in Lousiville, KY.

What’s on Hey Big Splendor

You can expect to read about cooking and food, fancy table settings and entertaining. As well as gardening, collecting shiny things, nature (the ultimate authority on splendor) and books because those are the things that elevate my ordinary.
